Job Description

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Applying nursing skills (e.g. dressing, injection, suture, vaccination, health advice & education), triage of patients, screening for nutritional status of children, distribution of medications to patients from the clinic’s pharmacy, while respecting MSF protocols in a primary health care facility for vulnerable populations during day shifts.
  • Knowing, promoting, implementing, and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules, and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises, and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Always respecting medical secrets and confidentiality.
  • Organizing and carrying out care and treatments for all patients according to medical prescriptions and assisting during consultations and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
  • Respect IPC according to set standards, especially when handling patients with infectious diseases.
  • Involved in the screening of patients for infectious diseases among patients passing through the triage room.
  • Ensure patient support and education.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities for the Role:

  • Identifying sexual gender violence victims and referring them to the doctor so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knows and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit.
  • Be involved in mhGAP training and eventual support on MH for our patients.
  • Ensuring patients are properly received and installed and that those with a lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding personal hygiene, movements, and comfort. For ER and OPD nurses, ensuring triage of patients in waiting areas, wards, or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary.
  • Responsible for sterilization, sending and collecting material from the sterilization room to the dressing room material and always ensuring the availability of sterilized material.
  • Carrying out surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e., assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency or deterioration and taking appropriate action.
  • Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (filling in patients’ files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.
  • Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover, ensuring no material is taken out of the nursing area/wards without prior authorization, etc.)
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment. Follow the user manual and protocols, and alert the supervisor in case of malfunction.
  • Respects the MSF-prepared weekly and monthly work schedule and promptly notifies the project PMR if unable to attend the clinic for a justifiable reason. She/he shall respect the administrative aspects of working requirements, including respecting the working hours (being on time in attending the clinic and leaving the clinic), informing the MSF PMR in case of justifiable absence.
  • Promote, implement, and follow up the universal hygiene standards/precautions, bio-hazard prevention, and infection control, ensuring high standards of hygiene.
  • Assists the doctor with stabilization of patients and eventual preparations for patient referral.
  • Collaborate on daily medical tasks with all medical personnel employed by MSF and partners, in the MSF's MSF-supported PHCC in Kerman.
  • Always respects the confidentiality of patient records and information.
  • Do any other job assigned to you by your supervisor.

The tasks above are not exhaustive regarding the specificity of MSF and possible evolution that could occur over time through adaptation of the mission. Consequently, other tasks can be assigned to allow the mission to function optimally.

Requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is essential.
  • Experience: 2 years of previous experience is essential.
  • Previous experience in other NGOs is desirable.
  • Languages: Farsi and English are essential.
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel).
