The Main Purpose of the Job:

  • To provide psychological support to patients in accordance with MSF principles, standards, and procedures to improve their mental health.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform the mental health needs assessment, establish a diagnosis and a treatment plan, inform the family of the possible consequences of the disease and the drug treatment to follow, and refer the patients to other professionals when necessary, to provide the treatment most likely to improve their state of health.
  • Implement the protocol for the care of victims of sexual violence (VVS), identify victims of VVS, and refer them to the medical team to provide them with the necessary treatment.
  • Provide psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group), by MSF protocols and in such a way as to improve the mental health of patients.
  • Help and train staff members and, if necessary, other actors to broaden the scope of mental health activities. Work closely with the translators to determine the vocabulary and attitude to adopt during the sessions.
  • Collect statistics and monitor data relating to mental health activities
  • Inform your superior and the medical team of any questions or problems that may arise in connection with the treatment, to offer the best solution from a medical point of view.
  • Guarantee the confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Inform the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
  • Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential.
  • Psychological support, providing psychological sessions for patients, and adherent sessions for Hep C patients.
  • Harm reduction, providing addiction consultation, and introducing the availability of opium substitution therapy.
  • Patient education to prevent the risks of overdose also continue the rehabilitation and reduction care at the clinic
  • Provide MHPSS services at least once for the patient stays in third-party facilities like compulsory camps.
  • Produce and provide mental health and psychosocial education messages.
  • Participates in life-skills training with the objective that the clients become more independent from the MSF structure. (empowerment)
  • Train for children who come with their mother including but not limited to life skills, education, prevention, intellectual development, etc.
  • Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary to enhance the scope of MH activities
  • Attend outreach with accompany of other members of the team for the introduction of MSF and services ( awareness).
  • Raising awareness about psychological support in MSF by conducting health promotion sessions (mental health tips) in spots
  • Harm reduction by providing consultations and distributing harm reduction items in spots.
  • Identify and refer persons in need of mental health and psychosocial support for psychiatrist/ MH gap consultation
  • Refer patients to other health professionals whenever necessary to provide the most appropriate treatment in MSF settings.
  • Play an essential role in the rapid testing procedures; is the main focal point for pre-and post-test counseling The tasks above are not exhaustive regarding the specific of MSF and possible evolution that could occur over time through adaptation of the mission. Consequently, other tasks can be asked to allow the mission to function optimally.

Specific Requirements for the Role:

Education:

  • Essential degree or diploma in clinical Psychology.
  • Experience: Essential 2 years experience minimum as a Psychologist
  • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries
  • Languages: Farsi and English
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet)
