Job Description

About NYOP:

NYOP is an innovative tech startup dedicated to developing advanced, AI-driven solutions for environmental monitoring, pest detection, and adaptive repelling. We leverage cutting-edge sensor fusion, real-time data processing, and dynamic control algorithms to create products that learn and evolve over time. If you’re passionate about solving complex, interdisciplinary challenges and have a track record of innovative hardware design, we want to hear from you.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative senior embedded electronic systems design engineer to lead the design, prototyping, and integration of our next-generation AI-based pest detection and repelling device. This role is initially project-based with the potential for permanent hire based on performance and project success. You will work on everything from PCB schematic and layout to sensor integration and firmware development, ensuring our device not only detects and repels pests effectively but also continuously learns and adapts.

Key Responsibilities:

PCB Design & Schematic Development:

  • Develop detailed electronic schematics and PCB layouts that integrate advanced sensor modules, microcontrollers, and power management circuits.

Sensor Integration & Programming:

  • Interface and program critical sensors, including:
  1. FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal imaging camera;
  2. BME680 for temperature, humidity, pressure, and gas detection;
  3. MMC5983MA-B magnetometer;
  4. MEMS microphone for ultrasound;
  • Write and optimize firmware to ensure robust, continuous, and real-time sensor data acquisition.

System Architecture & Integration:

  • Create high-level block diagrams to illustrate data flows (sensors → microcontroller/processor → outputs) and identify challenging interfaces.
  • Ensure seamless integration between the low-level sensor management (potentially on an ESP32) and high-level AI processing on the NVIDIA Jetson Nano 4 GB.

Prototyping & Testing:

  • Build and iterate on prototypes (including custom PCB and enclosure designs) for lab validation.
  • Collaborate on optimizing sensor placement, power management, and ensuring water-resistance and durability.

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Work closely with the AI/software team to integrate sensor data into our data pipelines and AI models.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and iterative improvements to facilitate future product development and potential certifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, Mechatronics, or a related field. Advanced degrees (M.S. or Ph.D.) are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of experience in electronics hardware design, including PCB design, sensor integration, and embedded firmware development.
  • Proven track record of working on complex, multidisciplinary projects; research experience or published work in sensor fusion, ultrasonic transducer design, or advanced PCB design is a strong plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with PCB design tools (e.g., KiCad, Altium Designer, Eagle).
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers (e.g., ESP32, STM32) and familiarity with high-level AI processing platforms such as the NVIDIA Jetson Nano.
  • Solid understanding of sensor interfacing protocols (I²C, SPI, I2S, UART) and power management.
  • Experience with designing or interfacing with custom piezoelectric or ultrasonic systems is a major advantage.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing water-resistant, portable enclosures.
  • Familiarity with sensor fusion and real-time embedded systems.
  • A demonstrated ability to innovate and optimize hardware for continuous, 24/7 operation.
  • Prior experience in startup environments or leading R&D projects is a plus.

What We Offer:

  • Project-Based Opportunity with Permanent Hire Potential: Start with an initial project contract focused on building a functional prototype for lab testing and AI model integration. If the project meets our key objectives, there is a clear path to a permanent position.
  • Competitive Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience, along with performance-based incentives.

Growth & Impact:

  • Work on cutting-edge technology with real-world impact in environmental monitoring and pest control.
  • Enjoy an entrepreneurial, innovative environment where your ideas are valued and your work makes a tangible difference.
