Job Description

  • Support the Head of Mission (HoM) in security management and coordination tasks, ensuring a smooth relationship with local and national authorities, contributing to the context analysis and follow-up, and providing translations and interpretations according to MSF protocols, standards, and procedures to facilitate the mission coordination tasks.
  • Support the HoM in promoting and protecting the MSF image externally and assisting in context analysis, dis-seminating relevant context information to the coordination team, regularly informing them on key issues, updating general information on the context for MSF internal documents, and advising on cultural appropriateness of organized activities and individual behaviors.
  • Analyze the risks and the security level of the context of the mission and assist in conducting risk assessments and in the development of security plans for the mission and projects. Advising the Project Coordinators (PC) and HoM on aspects of security management
  • Establish and maintain external relationships with relevant authorities and stakeholders. Keeping good knowledge of counterparts in different administrations and departments and keeping up-to-date records of field contacts (other NGOs, UN agencies, local authorities, etc.) verifying that they are easily accessible, in order to facilitate contacts and meetings.
  • At the request of the Head of Mission, assisting him/her or representing MSF in meetings (NGOs, official bodies and administrations, etc.) and preparing full reports when requested
  • Taking and compiling minutes of the meeting when participating in those meetings
  • Ensure the follow-up of relevant administrative dossiers such as the MSF registration in the country, immigration policies, national protocols, etc.
  • At the request of the HoM, preparing and conducting an information briefing, focusing on the country context for International Regional and Relocated Staff
  • Translate sensitive documents and act as an interpreter when needed. Drafting letters and correspondences with officials and partners and preparing reports, internal memos, and formal requests. Monitoring the correspondences in the absence of the HoM.
  • Assist in the elaboration of the advocacy and communication plans of the mission
  • Follow up on the specific context of Afghan migrants and their situation in the country
  • Follow up on the context in Afghanistan and its developments that could have an impact on Iran's mission.
  • Follow up the regional Middle East context
  • Prepare regular briefings and reports on the above-mentioned contexts highlighting possible impacts on the mission
  • Participate in the plan of action, mid-year review, and other activities related to the mission cycle.

Requirements

Education:

  • A university degree or similar level of education, ideally in political science, international relations, sociology, or other fields related to the position

Experience:

  • Experience in humanitarian aid preferably within MSF and/or similar INGO.
  • Essential strong understanding of the workings of the different administrations of the country.
  • Experience working on political, security, and humanitarian issues in the country.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the country’s political, economic, and security contexts (national and international).

Languages:

  • Excellent level of English written and spoken and mission language essential

Knowledge:

  • Computer proficiency in MS Excel and Word; Internet search is a must.
  • Good analytical skills, at ease with figures and data
  • Excellent communication and diplomatic skills, including writing skills
