Job Description

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
  • Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.


Specific Accountabilities for the Role:

  • To apply his/her medical knowledge and skills to provide medical consultation, physical examination & required further diagnostic investigations, diagnose and prescribe necessary treatment, respecting MSF protocols to patients attending the clinic. Direct participation in case of emergencies is essential. She/he ensures professional confidentiality and medical ethics are entirely respected. Respect and comply with validated SOPs.
  • The PDA assigned Physician will work closely with MSF referral doctors on the day-to-day referrals from PHCC to referral facilities identified. She/he informs the MSF referral doctor promptly if any referral case is discovered while providing medical consultation. Stabilization and timely referral of unstable patients. Familiarize yourself with the referral policy in this regard.
  • Follow and implement all MSF protocols, particularly the rational use of all medications.
  • Be involved in the mhGAP and collaborate with psychologists on the mental health care of our patients.
  • Provision of comprehensive SV care according to MSF SV protocol..
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care of the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of the medical material.
  • Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Provide appropriate information about the illness of the patient, especially the NCD that requires long-term treatment.
  • Proper documentation of patient notes/files, registers, prescriptions, etc. Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological medical data, checking/ensuring its accuracy and informing the line manager/MAM or Project PMR of any medical error or problems.
  • Contributes to the on-the-job training of the medical/paramedical staff of the clinic, if requested by Project MAM/PMR, in order to optimize patient care quality. Be involved and actively contribute to, rational prescription of medications prescribed for our patients.
  • Participates in medical trainings conducted by MSF in MSF-supported PHCCs in Kerman to strengthen their capacity and improve the quality of care.
  • Collaborate on daily medical tasks with all medical personnel employed by MOH, PDA and MSF, in the MSF's supported PHCC in Kerman.
  • Seeks support via TELEMEDICINE when needed.
  • Respects the MSF-prepared weekly and monthly work schedule and promptly notifies the project PMR if unable to attend the clinic for a justifiable reason. She/he shall respect the administrative aspects of working requirements, including respecting the working hours (being on time in attending the clinic and leaving the clinic), informing the MSF PMR in case of justifiable absence.
  • Ensures professional confidentiality of our patients.
  • Do any other tasks assigned to you by your supervisor.

The tasks above are not exhaustive regarding the specificity of MSF and possible evolution that could occur over time through adaptation of the mission. Consequently, other tasks can be assigned to allow the mission to function optimally.

Requirements:

  • Education: A Medical Doctor diploma is essential; desirable specialization or training in NCD and Infectious diseases.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a medical doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training).
  • Languages: English and Farsi are essential.
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel).
